Restoration & Monitoring
“Nau mai haere mai ki Tasman Bay Guardians.”
Helping to restore ecosystems
It’s time to take action, get some boots on the ground, and start the mahi. After listening to the concerns and needs of the community, schools and iwi we move forward with monitoring and restoration. We connect groups with common needs, fostering collaboration and strengthening our collective impact.
Restoration
Restoration is at the heart of our mission at Tasman Bay Guardians. Our efforts, informed by community needs and monitoring data, focus on reviving and sustaining the health of te taiao. We engage in a variety of projects, including habitat restoration, pest control, riparian planting and wetlands. We support community and catchment groups with their visions and targeted restoration plans.
Monitoring
Creating a thoughtful monitoring plan is essential to achieving targeted, attainable goals. Monitoring is a vital part of our conservation strategy as it provides baseline data and guides the most effective actions moving forward. Community-Based Freshwater Monitoring (CBFM) training, combined with citizen science platforms, helps record and share data (when consented) in a meaningful way. We tailor our monitoring initiatives to the specific needs of each catchment group, iwi/hapū, farmer, and kura, empowering local communities to actively participate in improving our waterways.
