Community Based Freshwater Monitoring
CBFM
Community-Based Freshwater Monitoring (CBFM) actively involves local communities in the monitoring and management of freshwater resources. This approach uses the local knowledge of community members to collect valuable data on various freshwater variables, which can be used to inform and support freshwater management and conservation efforts.
The CBFM project includes training community members to use tools like:
- Stream Health Monitoring and Assessment Kit (SHMAK)
- eDNA testing
- Īnanga (whitebait) monitoring and restoration
- Fish surveys
- Access to experts
