Coast Watch

“Nau mai haere mai ki Tasman Bay Guardians.”

Coast Watch

Coastwatch is a community-led coastal protection initiative coordinated by Tasman Bay Guardians, connecting people who care about the health of our coastline and marine environments across Nelson Tasman.

As our coastal areas come under increasing pressure from over-harvesting, pollution, biosecurity threats, and growing recreational use, Coastwatch provides a way for the community to get involved constructively and safely through advocacy, monitoring, education, and reporting.

Members receive training and support from agencies including the Department of Conservation, Fisheries New Zealand, Nelson City Council Harbourmaster, and Tasman District Council Harbourmaster. Coastwatch members are not enforcement officers — they are informed community advocates and observers helping protect the places we all love.

Whether you are a fisher, diver, surfer, boatie, kayaker, beach walker, or simply someone who cares about the future of our coastline, Coastwatch is an opportunity to connect with like-minded people, build skills, and help care for our coastal environment.
